Spencer Kobren Interviews Dr. Jerry Cooley About ACell MatriStem
Written by Admin 24 October 2010
The Bald Truth has just published an exclusive audio interview with ISHRS president, Dr. Jerry Cooley. Spencer Kobren interviews Dr. Cooley about the groundbreaking product, Acell MatriStrem. It seems this is the topic that is on everyone's mind lately. This may just be the product that changes the face of hair loss and hair restoration forever.
Jerry Cooley, MD: I started working with this wound healing product about a year and half ago, and initially got some promising results. It’s taken me definitely some time to understand it and understand what worked well and what didn’t, as well as just to see long term results. One of the things I’ve been doing in the last few months is just making a real concerted effort to bring people back in, which is not really that easy, but just to really look very closely at my results and I’ve just gotten that much more excited about it.
New Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant Instrument Unveiled
Written by HairTransplantDocs 30 March 2009
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) focuses on the targeted removal of follicular unit grafts without the use of a scalpel or sutures. Considered to be a less invasive procedure than traditional strip harvesting, some people have touted FUE as the holy grail of surgical hair restoration since its introduction to North America in 1999. However, variants of the original procedure known as the Woods Technique, named after pioneer Australian hair transplant surgeon Dr. Ray Woods, have proven to be less successful than hoped. Many physicians and patients were disappointed with the results of early FUE procedures, which has given FUE the reputation of being a hit or miss alterative to the time tested and proven success of traditional of state of the art hair transplantation.
IAHRS Member Dr. Alan Feller is one of the early adapters of the FUE technique and one of the most vocal concerning its shortcomemmings. Feller has repeatedly warned physicians and prospective patients about the three detrimental forces that are unique to FUE hair transplantation. 1. Torsion 2. Traction 3. Compression
After years of clinical research Dr. Alan Feller believes he has solved these problems and has introduced a new FUE extracting tool to the hair restoration community.
The NeoGraft FUE Hair Transplant Machine
On March 15th 2009, IAHRS Member Alan Bauman M.D. announced his commitment to the use the NeoGraft Follicular Unit Extraction machine to a worldwide audience on Spencer Kobren's The Bald Truth. North American hair transplant surgeons have been performing Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), the targeted removal of follicular unit grafts without the use of a scalpel, as an adjunct to hair transplant procedures since the year 2001.
Hair Transplant Procedure
Hair transplant surgery has come a very long way since the days of unnatural looking cornrow plugs, however most prospective hair transplant patients are unaware of what true state of the art hair transplantation is and what the procedure entails. Today's gold standard in surgical hair restoration is a procedure known as Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). Follicular Unit Transplatation might appear to be a simple outpatient procedure...
The Right Candidate
For the right patient, exhibiting the right hair and scalp characteristics, hair transplant surgery can be a life changing cosmetic procedure. However, not every hair loss sufferer is a good candidate for surgical hair restoration. It's important to fully understand the criteria that makes a good hair transplant candidate in order to make a better informed decision when considering surgical hair restoration.
