New Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant Instrument Unveiled
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) focuses on the targeted removal of follicular unit grafts without the use of a scalpel or sutures. Considered to be a less invasive procedure than traditional strip harvesting, some people have touted FUE as the holy grail of surgical hair restoration since its introduction to North America in 1999. However, variants of the original procedure known as the Woods Technique, named after pioneer Australian hair transplant surgeon Dr. Ray Woods, have proven to be less successful than hoped. Many physicians and patients were disappointed with the results of early FUE procedures, which has given FUE the reputation of being a hit or miss alterative to the time tested and proven success of traditional of state of the art hair transplantation.
IAHRS Member Dr. Alan Feller is one of the early adapters of the FUE technique and one of the most vocal concerning its shortcomemmings. Feller has repeatedly warned physicians and prospective patients about the three detrimental forces that are unique to FUE hair transplantation. 1. Torsion 2. Traction 3. Compression
After years of clinical research Dr. Alan Feller believes he has solved these problems and has introduced a new FUE extracting tool to the hair restoration community.
Will this device help to eliminate these possible detrimental graft destroying forces and allow more hair transplant surgeons to offer FUE to patients who qualify for the procedure? Well, IAHRS Member Dr. Alan Feller certainly thinks so.
